| 208195 | 2004-01-17 21:19:00 | Hi after buying a comp off tradrme and setting it up for network I bought a 10 m patch cable and a crossover adapter. Now the problem being is that if the Network is not being used for long periods of time. Say 1 - 2 hrs our main computer i think decided to turn it off. It is a AMD Duron 900 mhz with 192 mb ram. The network card is Belkin F5D5000 PCI Card / Desktop Network PCI Card. In network propetires i goto the card and in advanced there is a option for "LinkDown Power Saving" this is currently disabled... Also WakeUp Frame is enabled. Just now i thought of something. I went into System properties - device manager - then the properties of the card - Power Management and funnily enough it had "allow computer to turn this device off" So i untick it. Now i have to wait. But then in the mean time why doesn't the computer turn the Network card back "on" Cheers MrBeef |

| 208197 | 2004-01-18 01:52:00 | Is "Wake on lan" enabled in your systems BIOS? If it isn't then what you will (most likely) find happening is that the machine starts halting services that aren't in used to save power, however when it comes back to waking the service back up remotely, the NIC stays disabled as it cannot be remotely activated - you can usually wake up a NIC by pinging it. Therefore to wake the NIC up without WoL, you would have to ask for network traffic locally or manually wake it up... |
