208056 2004-01-17 13:12:00 Howdy,

I use(d) the TV out of my video card quite a bit up until recently. Unfortunately someone else in the household who shall remain nameless plugged the cable from the TV out into the video OUT of the TV not the video IN. It now appears that the TV out is knackered which surprised me as I didn't think the levels of the video OUT would be high enough to damage the TV out of the video card. Does anyone else know much about this?
The video card is a NVIDIA GF2 MX400.

Thanks for any help.

208057 2004-01-18 04:15:00 It shouldn't have damaged your TV card but it is remotely possible that one or other item of equipment lacks a solid mains earth and under those conditions an electrical discharge can take place from the ungrounded item to the grounded.

It should not occur to or from a double insulated (two pin) powered piece of equipment if the other item is also double insulated or properly earthed though, only between two 3pin units, one with a broken or disconnected earth. Computers are all three pin and earthed.

I won't bore you with the technical hows and whys, but if this possibility exists you might want to get an earth continuity check done.

Otherwise, I'd do some more checking as it seems a strange effect to occur and maybe there is plug or socket damage. Check the simple things first.
