| 208633 | 2004-01-20 03:42:00 | Hi, I'm looking for a small personal firewall that will alert me whenever an un-authorized program tries to access the internet, all I need is for it to do this as I have a dedicated linux box securing inbound traffic. The OS im using is Windows XP Professional. Thanks, //mb0o53 |

What this would end up doing is removing your default gateway from your machine and then telling all applications you want to allow access to the net to use the proxy server - mainly because Trojans and the lil' nasties look for a default gateway - anyway to call home and they'll use it, but proxy rules have to be set in each program requiring internet access. The only major problem would be programs without support for proxy's but there are plenty of viable alternatives for that. CyberChuck |
