208586 2004-01-20 02:02:00 I have a problem with Windows XP . After I have been on line via the Ethernet port and a DSE Router, the computer becomes very sluggish. If I switch off the Router or disable the port, everything becomes normal.

If I reconnect the router & port, nothing happens until I actually go on the Net again.
The Firewall, "Sygate" reported a whole lot of attempts to get out which it stops.
I have scanned with Norton Antivirus & also Addalarm but nothing was found. It is not a huge problem as it only takes a few seconds to reconnect. Just annoying.

Let us know what attempts were made to 'get out' - as these may be your PC establishing a connection with the router for the local network connection (network between the PC and the router rather than other PCs). They may be establishing local IP addresses, which is slowing down the PC.

208588 2004-01-20 03:31:00 "keep your firewall between your internet connection and you, not your lan". in this case the router is the lan and as jester says it is most likely your computer trying to access the router, which the firewall is blocking. if you can't find a solution then try for a router which is also a firewall. if your router is already a firewall, you dont need sygate, there is already a hardware firewall which is better. 208589 2004-01-21 21:37:00 The blocked applications are:-

C: \W1 N D OWS \System32\dIssvc. exe
C: \WI N D OWS \System32\D N S . EXE

For some reason it is not doing it at the moment.

A hardware firewall is better but it doesn't alert one to the sneaky programs wanting to go out. ;-)
