2004-01-19 08:54:00 | I was hoping to transfer a 650 MB file to my friend across the net, as i cant get it to him any other way. We both have broadband (ish) - have 128, he as 256k... Are there any programs (preferably nz based) that allow this?

2004-01-19 09:18:00 | Might pay to setup this: http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ Just forward port 21 from your router to the PC you're hosting it from, or unblock port 21 on your firewall. From there, get your mate to use GetRight so he can resume it (Getright is the best for resuming files, just the way it handles it) and you should be right as rain :-) Hope this helps Chill.

2004-01-19 09:21:00 | BTW - Just in case you're worried about setting it up, its dead simple! Took me about 5 mins the first time I did it using FileZilla :D | Chilling_Silently (228) | |
2004-01-19 17:49:00 | Try a P2P programme such as Kazaa Lite. You'd both need to install it, and co-ordinate the file share time so that it wasn't available for just anyone to access | Greg S (201) | |
2004-01-19 18:15:00 | sorry Greg dont like the kaaza method to public for me I would use win vnc or real vnc do a search on google for these they are freeware contect to your mates pc take control of it then drag and drop the file from your pc to his. with winvnc the connecting pc need a password to connect to each other. Other than that all you need to know is your mates ip address and set up the same password on both machines.

2004-01-19 22:37:00 | useing p2p networks to send files to a mate is one really bad idea. nothing pisses people off more than someone trying to stop people downloading off them in order to send something. i've had way to many messages come through "stop downloading off me i'm sending a file to a mate" a passworded ftp server is a nice idea tho this might break your aggreement with your isp (some isp don't allow servers on their accounts).

2004-01-19 22:56:00 | Ok thanks everyone. I had already used instant messengers, but they frze my router bad. I didnt want to use kazaa, cause finding each other's files has often proved a pain. I like the ftp idea, but i never read terms and aggreements (silly me), so i hope i dont violate anything. cheers

Just rename the file and description and it's very unlikely that anyone else would even find the file. And if you set the maximum number of simultaneous uploads to 1, then no-one else will even be able to initiate the download |
