208527 2004-01-19 12:14:00 Greetings,

Ive just registered a domain name (First for me), and am having a bit of trouble configuring it.

I signed up with Orcon (Am still trying to work out when/how I pay them), and am also using their DNS ns1.orcon.net.nz and ns2.orcon.net.nz servers.

The question I have is:
How do I point the new domain of mine to my no-ip.com account so I can use my .net.nz domain for ftp/ssh/www etc?

What do I need to specify? There's a few options, CNAME, A.....

They've taken their simple config offline for the time being :-(

What more info do I need to provide here?

Many thanks

Chill.

208528 2004-01-19 14:11:00 You'd wan't to use CNAME and point it to your no-ip.com account. I have a Dynamic DNS account at no-ip.com and at freedns.afraid.org. I have the account at freedns.afraid.org set to use CNAME and point to my no-ip.com account, and it work's fine. Hope this is what you were look for.

I think you pay them by CC (credit card, I think)

There are (as far as I know) 2 ways.

1. You forward (or redirect) the traffic from your domain name to your no-ip.com account e.g. you.net.nz > you.no-ip.com

2. You use miniDNS http://www.minidns.net/ and point your domain name to there DNS servers ( minidns.net are the same as no-ip.com ( only thing, I don’t know if it works with CTLN( e.g. .net.nz), you might need to e-mail them and ask)

I hope this helps

208530 2004-01-19 22:02:00 Hey guys,

Trying to add a CNAME entry I get:
Error while adding zone information:
+ You cannot setup a CNAME with an empty subdomain.

I'll have a look around a lil more, and I'll call Orcon after that :-)

Thanks guys

208531 2004-01-20 00:19:00 First off I would say you should register your domain with Clear. Their management interface is second to none in NZ for running your own domain.

On the front of getting your domain pointing to your No-IP address.
1) You should by default point domain.net.nz to user.no-ip.com using a CNMAE.
2) Setup any other CNAME's you may desire. eg www.domain.net.nz and ftp.domain.net.nz. This list could go on for a while.
3) Remember that there will be hiccups when your IP address changes and ISP's DNS's servers have already cached your records ( this generally has a 4 hour timeout ).
4) Make sure you have a good firewall because these mappings will lead more people to your 'connection'.

The CNAME's you can probably get done by calling Orcon and having them change the zone file for you.

Cheers
