209163 2004-01-21 10:19:00 do you have a third party firewall (example zonealarm) if so what are the settings there ensure that your browser can access the intenet through your firewall. also try ping your isp ie goto a command prompt type ping www.myisp.co.nz press enter if you get a response good if you dont please tell us :) beama (111)
209164 2004-01-21 10:29:00 Try the advice mentioned previously. If it still has a problem, go into network properties and delete tcp/ip protocol, restart and re-install it. Pheonix (280)

209168 2004-01-21 22:18:00 This little piece of spyware (NEW . NET) alters the Winsock keys in the Registry and can prevent websites loading .

Go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel .
If you find new . net listed there, remove it .
Reboot when finished and try browsing the internet .

If you are still having the problem of being able to connect to the internet but not being able to go anywhere then do the following:

1) Go to Control Panel>>Add/Remove Programs>>Windows Setup .
Uncheck Communications .
Click Apply>>OK .
It will ask you to reboot . DO NOT REBOOT .

2) Open up the Registry Editor by going to Start>>Run>>regedit .
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es .
At the bottom of that thread you will see a folder called Winsock2 .
Right click on it and delete the file .
Close the registry editor .

3) Go back to Add/Remove Programs>>Windows Components .
Double click on Communications (the word, not the checkmark box) .
Put a check in Dial up Networking .
Click OK
You will be prompted to reboot . This time . . . REBOOT .
Upon reboot . . . connect to your ISP and attempt to browse .

209169 2004-01-22 01:41:00 I have done some work on this and have found that almost all modern modems load default drivers of V.92 which are not supported by NZ ISP's. In the event of the ISP not having V.92 standard they are supposed to default to V.90 or even further down to Flex etc, but they don't do it well in my experience. Load the V.90 driver you should have got with your modem drivers and see if that does not improve things.
Regards Robert.
