209051 2004-01-21 21:30:00 In the last few weeks, when I start up or shut down my WinMe computer, the 'Connect to...' dialogue box comes up. Very annoying when you want to shut down and you have to wait to click 'cancel' b4 it will carry on and shut down.
Any ideas on where the problem may lie or where a setting has changed that can be corrected?

209052 2004-01-21 22:52:00 Hello user@

Welcome to Press F1 :)

What I would first suggest is for you to check your system for Adware & Spy ware with Ad-aware & Spybot have a look here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) for where to download them.

Also you might what to run a Anti-Virus Program as well, just in case.

209053 2004-01-21 22:59:00 Hi,

Download and run AVG Anti-Virus from www.grisoft.com and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com, if you haven't already.

It could also be likely that a program (eg. Kazza) is set to connect to the internet upon startup. In that case you would have to look in that programs options to disable it.

My sisters computer which ran WindowsMe, had the same problem amongst numerous others. Everything was resolved after I uninstalled Kazza, removed a virus, over 200 spyware entries and cleaned the startup folder.

209054 2004-01-22 08:02:00 I have run adaware previously to clear out spyware months ago. I have just run it again to no avail.
I run Kazaalite but have not had any problems in the past with it. There appears to be no option to connect on startup.
I run NAV on a regular basis. Again no joy in this area.
Any more suggestions?

Did you download and update to the latest reference files first? Did you try Spybot?

You could try downloading and running a trojan detector.

209056 2004-01-22 10:51:00 the same thing happened to me with my XP. everytime i used SimCity 3000 Unlimited the updater would try to automatically connect. just disable it. ( i think in the autoconnect box click advanced or options and choose disable autodial or whatever seems best) agent_24 (4330)
209057 2004-01-28 20:50:00 None of the suggested solutions worked but when I installed Zonealarm firewall off the latest PC CD, it solved it.
Thanks for the suggestions.

209058 2004-01-28 21:33:00 Normally that should not occur. Makes me suspect there is something nasty in your PC.

For your peace of mind, I would do an "online" virus scan HERE (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) to ensure that the zonealarm is not masking something naughty.

209059 2004-01-28 23:11:00 I'm having the same thing happen since I installed NAV 2003,up from 2002.Everytime I boot up or shut down, the connect screen comes up.A friend also has had it,and traced it to Nortons.I also have NIS 2002 on this pc,with a slide out thingy that tells when something is trying to access the internet. And that says it's Nortons shared something or other. Right pain!!! Neil McC (178)
