209016 2004-01-21 10:05:00 I am pulling my hair out trying to setup my notebook wireless PC card.
Its a EXCEL IEEE 802.11b,this is the second one I have had the first one installed ok and worked for a couple of months and one day it stopped working,I sent it back for warranty and the one I have now is its replacement.
I am try to connect to my wireless access point,it seems to install drivers ok ( I had removed old card drivers as this one is a different model ) the card power light is on it finds the 3COM access point ( 3CRWE41196 model )
but won't transfer data and the link light is off.
Is anybody in the group had experience setting up cards who can help,I don't want to send this one back if its something I have missed.
any help thanks,
john.

209017 2004-01-21 10:26:00 Do you have em talkin on the same frequency?

It will be represented by a number.

209018 2004-01-21 10:57:00 The access point and PC card are both 2.400 GHZ -2.4835 GHZ range.
Thanks,
John.

209019 2004-01-21 21:33:00 Sorry John

What I think he meant was the Channel. Wireless B and G device has 11 channels to choose from. If these don't match they can't connect.
You will need to check what channel the Base station is operating
on (normally displayed in the Admin page for the Wireless access point) and then check your Network setting in Windows (Fire up the device manager and double click your Wireless card in the Network adapters group, inside go to the advanced tab, and look for channel, and change to match the base station)

Cheers

209020 2004-01-21 22:25:00 Yeah,my mistake in referring to it as frequency, channel is what i was referring to.

I have installed/set-up a couple of ad-hoc networks using these cards

www.computermedic.co.nz

www.computermedic.co.nz

I presume they are identical to what you are using,The excell cards are rebranded Cameo items.

Anyhow,if memory serves me correctly the pci card defaulted to channel 2 while the pcmcia card defaulted to channel 5 or 6,whacking them both onto the same channel caused everything fire up and the 2 cards started communicating.

After that it was as simple as setting up the network in the normal way.

209021 2004-01-22 06:33:00 Thanks guys, I will check out the settings you two have mentioned,I am using the infrastructure type of network not ad-Hoc as I only have a network back to the access point.
I will post back,
john.

209022 2004-01-22 07:44:00 Clients in an infrastructure setup scan for the channel AP's are using, so nothing to set there.
Were you using any security (MAC filtering, WEP etc)? If so, switch it all off any try to establish a connection.

209023 2004-01-24 09:40:00 Sorry it taken so long to post back, believe it or not since last post I have been trying to get the card to work between going to work and sleeping,in desperation today I bought another card from DSE and had it working in minutes,I will send the card back, either the Excel cards are fussy to install or I have had two duds.
Thanks again for the help,
John.
