| 209667 | 2004-01-24 07:43:00 | Win XP H. While browsing another forum I found what I think would be a good idea if it's possible. The OP does not want her Firewall, AV or any other anti-progs to startup when the pc is booted as there isn't much point in having them running whilst off-line (dialup conn). She wants the firewall etc to start when she's ready to conn to Internet. Is it possible to set up some sort of clickable "thingy" which would start all the necessary anties then open the Internet conn?? |

| 209670 | 2004-01-24 08:23:00 | you could simply take the firewall out of startup. don't forget this is only the interface for it. then simply fire it up when you connect to the net. however that would mean any rouge program/trojen could connect the pc to the net with no firewall to stop it (and the MS firewall won't stop it either). i don't really see the point of mucking around trying to set that sort of setup up. there is not a lot to gain by doing it. |

It's not a bad idea to have them running all the time anyway, because they can alert you to any issues you may have despite being offline | Greg S (201) | ||
