| 209860 | 2004-01-25 10:51:00 | Hello, I have just brought a 17" CMV CT-723D LCD monitor from Taiwan. (This is almost the same as the CT-722D sold here by some companies, same specs, different looks). However, upon return, I have found 3 dots on the outer area approximately 10-15 cm each from centre that are faulty. Now, I am firstly angry as anyone would be. Secondly, I would under no circumstance be going there just to get it repaired. If I was to go there.... it'll be out of the warranty period (3 years later) The warranty contract states that if there is ONE faulty dot 3cm or something from the centre, then they will instantly replace the LCD board. However, on the outer area, there has to be 4 dots before they replace the board. So, I'm wondering, can I get the board replaced here? Or is my only option to send it back via. airmail and back again... (not much possible, the cost will be about the same as getting a new monitor). Any advice? Many thanks in advance, |

If you pay less, you have to accept that there will be some faulty pixels - thats why they are cheaper. For a zero dead pixel/bright pixel warranty, the cost is considerably higher. Basically you get what you pay for. The main problem is in determining what you should be getting before you pay. |

From your fault description it sounds to me as if the screen is within specification for that class of product . As other posters have pointed out, zero dead/bright pixel screens are a premium product and are labelled and priced accordingly . IMHO you would be wasting your time and money trying to pursue any form of warranty on this unless it dies completely, and even then you would probably have to send it back to Taiwan (and pay freight both ways) as the local agent might quite reasonably refuse to support a product that bypassed his business and from which he derived no profit . If your buy price in Taiwan was cheap enough, you could sell the screen here and use the money recovered to buy a locally supported product that has a zero defect guarantee . Either that or buy a 19" CRT monitor and use the difference in costs for development of the rest of your system . Cheers Billy 8-{) :| |

| 209865 | 2004-01-26 03:01:00 | Yes, many thanks for your replies, I liked your suggestions Billy, however, the price at which I brought it was not cheap enough for most NZ people to afford. Plus, how many of you would buy a LCD you knew had 3 dead pixels already? Not likely.... Many thanks still, anyone know of an NZ agent? |

| 209866 | 2004-01-26 06:03:00 | The trouble is that it's not "repairable". If the local agents have a replacement "perfect" panel, it will probably cost more as a spare part than a new monitor.:D | Graham L (2) | ||

Is that monitor an "el cheapo" compared to the likes of, say, a Philips 170B? I was looking at one in the weekend and was quite impressed with the display compared to other more well known brands. Still doing research on it but it would be good to hear others opinions. ;-) |
