| 209933 | 2004-01-25 21:04:00 | My Pentium 4 started doing strange things yesterday. On boot up after the first password screen the screen went blank, nothing, the monitor light showed it was in sleep mode. Hit reset. Second boot up it loaded passed where it did before, entered password for windows network and almost completed booting and the screen went blank again. Again reset and then it booted up completly. Ran all the maintenance programs over night and today seemed fine until after downloading some digi camera pics I went to safely remove usb device via the sys tray and again screen went blank. Reset is the only way to get pc to shut down. Rebooted. What could be the problem? PC is about one year old, windows ME. | Danger (287) | ||
| 209934 | 2004-01-25 21:45:00 | Are you able to tell if it may be a fault developing in the monitor or if the computer itself is "dying"? Are all the cables firmly attached to the monitor? | tommy (2826) | ||
| 209935 | 2004-01-25 21:59:00 | Well ctrl/alt/delete doesn't reboot the computer but perhaps thats because it hasn't completed initial boot up? And the last time I just hit reset automatically cos thats what I had to do the first two times. I do have my monitor going through a KVM switch which isn't really needed now cos the P3 I was networked to died, so I'll try by passing that. One time yesterday it completed boot up just, and about 5 seconds later it died (like monitor in sleep mode) then in 10 seconds later woke itself up again. |

| 209937 | 2004-01-26 10:29:00 | I checked for virus's. The day before it played up I had been playing alot of Moto x madness online, 4 hours of intense graphics use. Still, its not a cheap graphics card, its a g force 4 Ti 4200. This pc hasn't had heaps of use, I mainly use my laptop and its only just a year old. Six months of that time I was out of Auckland and using my laptop. Its probably only had about 4 months regular use, tho the monitor is about 3 years old. Its been booting up ok today since I removed the KVM switch so hopefully thats the problem. | Danger (287) | ||
