2004-01-27 11:17:00 | bahahah it rhymes... OK, so my friend and I would like a Wi-Fi bridge between our houses. Line of site, everything. I can see his balcony. He's about just less that 1 k away, and I need a wireless bridge to gap the distance. Only problem is price. His contacts provide him one with about $80 (i guess bar the amplifier). But i look at commercial units, all over $1500. So I know all i need is a Wireless Card with one mother of an aerial, but where can i cruise for options?

2004-01-27 12:20:00 | Well here's my other problem. This Wi-Fi aerial aint just going into a PC, its going to need to be converting signals to ethernet and then sending to me pc through two switches. I think that may be more of an expense.

2004-01-27 12:31:00 | I see, you take a wireless acess point, shove an antenna on the end, and tell it to make like a bridge? | Growly (6) | |
2004-01-27 12:34:00 | thats about it. | robsonde (120) | |
2004-01-27 19:49:00 | In theory it's simple, in reality you could find two different brands of equipment don't bridge well. If possible, try to get the same bridge for both ends of the link. There is a helpful wireless forum at nzwireless.org (http://www.nzwireless.org) | wuppo (41) | |
2004-01-27 19:59:00 | i know this is silly but.... why dont you just but a long cat5 to your mates house? i mean it may be a bit more expensive, but you get faster connections.

The only reason i thought i i could wi fi is because the street sorta curves back around, so then i can see him from the back of my house... I know it's hard to imagine, but if i had a pic you'd understand. |
