210444 2004-01-27 07:50:00 is it safe to run a deep scan on norton av and run thorough scandisk?

i ran scandisk thorough on my old win 95 computer just because i wanted to burn some time (i admit the hard drive was 4.02gb and verrry old) and when i rebooted to computer therw a tizzy fit. it complained the hd has died. since then i have been cautious when performing those things. i will defrag and run adaware but is it safe to run thorugh nav and scandisk on my windows xp computer?

210445 2004-01-27 07:57:00 Your computer malfunctioned after a thorough scandisk, because the scandisk found physical faults on your hard disk. It then highlighted these as "bad sectors" if these sectors were once holding onto important windows info then windows would fail to run. On the upside the scandisk was trying to avoid further damage.

A thorough antivirus scan will not do any damage, and should be run regularly.
