210711 2004-01-28 06:39:00 Hi,
My laptops an HP Pavilion ze4103s Notebook and I have MBM 5 and to day my laptops was happly siting there doing nothing and then the temps went to 63.C (I don't thinks this is very high for a laptop) but I put my hand under to see if it was hot and I say u could cook an egg so i go to shut it down and the mouse pad was getting very hot,
would this be to the fan is gluped up in the laptop and or I need more cooling? (I do like to run 3d games on the laptop)
ps:If I need more cool what do you have in mind Im pritty poor so no water cooling for me ... :(

Thank You Gods-Hitman~2004

210712 2004-01-28 07:09:00 There is very little can be done to add cooling to a laptop.

There is simply no room in the device (even assuming you could get it apart and back together safely) to add anything.

Is the fan running OK?

Are the vents clear and unobstructed?

Its a problem with desktop chips in laptops, and a reason I always advise buyers to seek models with a mobile version of the CPU where possible.
Not sure what the 4103s is, but think it may be a desktop 1.7 GHz Celeron chip?

Here is your full service manual at this link (h20015.www2.hp.com) in case you want to fix it until its broken.

Its unusual to be able to access this type of info, its a big download though (6+ MB)

Where does the fan suck air from? If it gets it from under the laptop, don't use it on your lap. :D It should be raised up a bit so air can get in freely. That's assuming that the fan is working. Can you see it/hear it working?

210716 2004-01-29 01:59:00 How about this:

JustCooler USB Power Notebook Cooling Pad (www.wyntec.com.au)? No idea if its effective or not.

210717 2004-01-29 04:02:00 Try getting a USB Fan. A friend used one on his powerbook while using Final Cut Pro (Video Editing). He angled it down towards the intake vents, and it helped a lot with performance, and kept it from crashing (Yes Macs do crash). About $15 - $20 on Trademe Marlboro (4607)
210718 2004-01-29 19:21:00 Cool fan mat thingy
Im only 13 and im not alowed to use Trademe and or more
but to the point is there any thing in auckland? (DSE, Big Bite...)

210719 2004-01-29 19:53:00 OK that notebook cooling pad is distributed locally by Anyware Computer Accessories. I don't think they sell to the public but they should be able to put you onto a dealer,

http://www.anywarenz.co.nz There's a sles inquiry email on the site.

210720 2004-01-30 02:26:00 If "the computer was doing nothing and then the temperature went to 63 °C" surely something is wrong.

Is the fan working? If it's not, why not get that fixed, rather than trying to make the outside more comfortable? It's inside the CPU package that the damage will happen (soon -- and expensively) if the fan has died.
