210668 2004-01-28 04:18:00 I recently purchase a new PC with XP PRO O/S installed. I then installed Microsoft Office 2000 Professional and set Microsoft Outlook to be the email client software. Next I installed Norton’s Internet Security 2004 and Norton’s System Works 2004. The problem that I am having is that when I try to send large text files, pictures, Internet pages and attachments it is blocked by something and then sent to the sent box event though it has not been sent. The process bar says sending mail like it normally does but then immediately stops. Incoming mail is not a problem just the outward mail. What really strange small email text goes fine, but one it gets over a certain size the problem kicks in.

My first reaction was to think it was Norton’s scanning outward mail function causing this. After I disable it, the problem is still there. Next I disable Norton’s Internet security all together and then the Norton’s antivirus in turn and then turn both programs off. The problem remained. Next I thought maybe the XP Pro firewall was the cause but after disabling the problem still remains. Next I extended the server timeout to 5 minutes in outlook to see if that made a different but the problem remains. I search the XP windows and outlook to see if there is a function that would b causing this blocking of the mail but could not find anything. I am new to XP so my knowledge is limited in what to do next. The Symantec, for Norton’s software site and help systems could not find anything to solve this issue also.

I was hoping there is someone who can help with this annoying problem.
My apologies for a long message but I really need help with this one.

Regards,

Terry

210669 2004-01-28 05:20:00 Hi Terry

I haven't had much luck in finding why you are having a problem but here is one site that may have some clues, although it talks about opening rather than sending attachments.

www.slipstick.com

Maybe it's Outlook itself rather than Nortons, blocking the transmission of any attachments. Looks like that is a security feature included in Office service pack 2?

Not too much help I'm afraid but this post will bump your question back up there for those home from work now

210670 2004-01-28 07:32:00 Check what your isp's limit is on outgoing mail, you might get a nasty surprise. It also usually has a limit on size of mail incoming as well. Worth checking into before you turn off, or alter anything else. supergran (108)
210671 2004-01-28 09:26:00 Do you dial-up first and then check your email? Or do you let Outlook do the dialling?

If the latter, then connect to the internet first, then click Send/Receive to send the big emails you want to send and see what happens.
