211016 2004-01-31 17:15:00 HAVE TO agree with 45South....norton is a pain in the #$% to try to uninstall/reinstall ....possibly the worst program I've ever come across for this ......often if it give the old 'norton has encountrered a internal program error you need to uninstall then reinstall it' message .............well frankly uninstalling nortonis like trying to get rid of an octopus with 1000 arms with suckers loaded with superglue and it just wont cooperate..... drcspy (146)
211017 2004-01-31 19:01:00 I have to agree with some of the comments here.
Like many users on this board, I've spent years (and years - count the grey hais!) working on different Os and a huge variety of PC specs.
And to that i've found Norton AV to be a good product, but not great, and (to me) the best of the bunch for the fact that it catched virii (?).
But this software leaves a lot to be disired. I keep hoping that which each yearly release of a new version that they will change the crappy aspects of the program and fix obvious bugs.
How many times have I seen the "end now" dialog box on any win95 and up OS for NAV when shutting down? And keep in mind that this is on that huge variety of OSs (well, I do mean MS OSs) and hardware specs.
And i have to agree with the latest PCW which says that a user does not want to know what to have to do with an attachment virus - just delete the bloody thing and be done with it.
And why do I have to keep turning off "scan outgoing email" in NAV because it stops OE and OL from sending email occasionally?
And why do I sometimes have to switch off "scan incoming email" because it corrupts some Word docs and causes then to come up with a path error and they have to be reemailed? (took me a while to figure that one out).
And believe me I've searched symantec and the net many a time for the answers to these questions, with no real answers so far.
But it's the program I recommend because it's a known product and it works - it's just that it also happens to be a pain in the ass. Sorta like Windows!

211019 2004-01-31 20:12:00 never had too many problems with norton 2002 antivirus but use Fix-It and Panda these days both are efficient and less resource hungry on my AMD 1.3 thunderbird system running 98SE still kiwibeat (304)
