210781 2004-01-28 15:04:00 I am buying a notebook at the end of the year.Hope i can get a good p4 notebook or athlon for 2000 dollars.
Whats the difference between pentium4 and pentium M and also pentum centrino.
Am i right that pentium M doesn't exceed 1.5ghz?Whats pentium centrino.
There's pentium 4 and pentium M notebooks.Which one is faster?
Then whats with pentium centrino?Huh?Don't understand.
There' 3 different kind of pentiums.Sigh...
What are the hardware differences?
Is it because intel didn't develop the chip further for the Pentium M thats why it you cannot get one that exceeds 1.5ghz?

And the funny thing is that "Pentium" was the fifth generation (hence "pent" referring to five), yet with pentium 4, it should be nontium (or something like that!) ;)

210784 2004-01-29 14:52:00 I was wondering if pentium 4 hyper threading is faster than intel centrino
Why cant they just stick wif one or two pentiums. So confusing to know which ones faster
Athlon is more clear to understand

210785 2004-01-29 19:53:00 Its not about speed, but battery life. Pentium M is the Centrino CPU, but they didnt do a few other things to the laptop, such as Wireless Networking... Or something silly like that.

Pentium 4 is just their stock Desktop CPU, and it chews through the Battery a lot more than its Mobile/Laptop-based counterparts.

Personally, if you have the $$, go with a Pentium M/Centrino.

Chill.

As mentioned, advice now for a purchase in many months is somewhat futile. Its a moving target.
