1355404 2013-10-08 02:01:00 I have a hotmail account and use Outlook Express to view my emails .

Just lately, a new sidebar has appeared on the right that says, "Outlook . com anywhere . . . " "Sending a big attachment? . . . " "Outlook . com brings all your accounts . . . " "Trusted email senders will show green shield . . . " and others .

I don't want this sidebar and would like to remove it but I cannot see where to do that . I would appreciate your help to tell me how to remove it, please .

Thank you .

1355405 2013-10-08 03:01:00 Cant confirm the following as Outlook Express is so old now I don't have any computers that have XP on it still.

To remove the Outlook bar from Outlook Express:
•Select View | Layout from the main Outlook Express menu.
•Make sure the check box next to Outlook Bar is not selected.

1355406 2013-10-08 04:18:00 Thanks, Wainui. Unfortunately I cannot find Layout on any of the menu choices. I usually use Firefox but no Layout there. So I tried IE where there are a few more choices under View but could not find it there, either. It seems as though I will just have to put up with it.

Thanks just the same. Your help is appreciated.

But you said you use Outlook Express??
Firefox and internet explorer are web browsers so are you actually using webmail to view your Hotmail emails?

1355408 2013-10-08 04:53:00 I do use Outlook Express but there are no menus in OE only in Firefox or IE. If there is a "View" in OE, where do I find it, please? Roscoe (6288)
1355409 2013-10-08 05:01:00 Its Not Outlook Express, its the Hotmail/ Outlook.com actually causing the Ads.

Its actually Web mail. Its possible to disable to a certain degree. BUT to quote Microsoft:

The ads are how Microsoft makes the money to keep Outlook free.

You can upgrade to Outlook Plus (paid) to be rid of them permanently.
If you have PLUS and ads please contact the Billing Department.

If you are using Firefox you can use either popup blocker or No-script but neither will reclaim the space the ads take up.

To disable to a certain degree, open your browser and log into the web mail - this is in IE -- down the bottom right hand corner, click on the cog, in the window that opens go to "My Choices" and set to " not Allowed"

5225

Then back at the main mail page, to the left of the cog is a "AdChoices >" Click that, click on the purple box -- "Choose" -- Personalised ads in this browser - Then set to OFF.

1355410 2013-10-08 21:10:00 Thank you, Wainui. As you say, the ads are disabled to a certain degree. Perhaps the way to be rid of them completely is to install something different from OE? Would that be an option? Any suggestions?

I am, as you say, using XP.

Thanks for your help.

1355411 2013-10-08 23:35:00 Dont think it will matter what Email client is used, the ads are generated from Hotmail/Outlook.com.

Could be wrong - But from what I have read the only way to get rid of them completely is get the Plus version which is the paid option.

The Free version has the ads, the Paid doesn't.

1355412 2013-10-09 00:48:00 Have used Outlook Express 6 for years and no ads have appeared to date, lol.

Also use several others.

1355413 2013-10-09 01:15:00 B u g g e r, Hotmail have updated to Outlook.com and even with adblock on that space talked about is still sitting there as vacant.

Noticed also that the name Yahoo appears in the top of the screen.

Yahoo mail has also updated this day.

Shame the US Government can't do likewise and get themselves out of a mess. Deadline 16 October before they forfeit on loan re-payment.
