1354616 2013-09-29 21:18:00 I don't use my laptop very often. Does that make a difference to my problem?

When I load my Hotmail account, I have about a minute to look at it before the page reloads by itself to the ASK website. I tried a few of my other favourites but they do not do that.

Also, when I open a new tab I would expect a blank page. Instead it goes to the ASK website. It is annoying as I have no interest in that website.

I am running Vista and my browser is Firefox.

What can be causing that and what can I do to stop it?

Thanks so much for your help.

Personally I normally use Revo uninstaller Portable set to advanced mode, ( this allows you to remove the reg keys that a normal uninstall wont do) then go in and remove the add-ins manually. But the above should work as well.

Scroll down the page and it also shows some malware cleaners to run, these should get rid of any other traces.

Sometimes its a PITA to remove - it hangs on damn good ;)

As it says on that page:

You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this Ask Toolbar. Be very careful what you agree to install.Always opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you never wanted to download and install in the first place.

1354621 2013-09-30 01:19:00 Thank you, Wainui.

I was unable to remove the ASK toolbar because it did not show up in the Add/Remove programmes, so I downloaded the Revo uninstaller and that has done the trick. Everything has returned to normal and I can access my emails once more.

Thank you to Speedy as well. It is very gratifying that I can ask on this forum and receive plenty of help. Most appreciated.
