1333701 2013-03-22 04:09:00 Gee there seem to be lots of ISP's advertising bundles on tv lately.

There look to be some good deals (on paper)

Now that Telecom are going to sack a lot of staff will they be able to drop their line charges ?

1333702 2013-03-22 06:01:00 I haven't seen Snap advertise and to me they seem like the best (consumer) bet. I know for the more in the know of us there are better ISP's, but for the masses Snap seems to be doing a good job.

SO many people have signed with orcon though. That unlimited package, geeze! So many suckers just jump on there. It's hideously over subscribed.

1333703 2013-03-22 08:55:00 Telecoms staff levels don't have much to do with their ISP charges. They don't run or maintain their own network anyway it's all contracted out. Mostly what they do is own the network and send out the bills. Also xtra is just one part of the business.

Good to see these adds though, over time bandwidth continues to slowly get cheaper.

1333704 2013-03-22 22:03:00 Its the line charges that need to drop - its basically $50 a month for crappy old copper that was put in 100 years ago!

They put it up every year "in line with inflaltion" as their kiwi share allows them to do.

You have options now - you can dump Telecom and go to a provider that offers VOIP if you are concerned about paying for old copper wires.

The quality of the level of service - customer or connection - received may vary (in either direction) of course, but then life is a risk! :)

Isn't Snap a Christchurch based ISP and only does the South Island??

1333708 2013-03-24 18:30:00 I hardly make any phone calls from my landline.

But with 2 websites i think I need it.

The only thing not being squeezed price wise is the landline which at $50 a month makes up a big chuck on a package.
