1332719 2013-03-14 09:52:00 Hi

Just completed a big Android update on my Galaxy S2.

When powering on now it asks for the "SIM network unlock PIN" and if I ignore that it shows as no SIM installed and emergency call only.

I have had this phone for over a year and a half with no issues. Bought from Fairbuy brand new.

On Telecom XT prepay.

Anyone got any ideas what the unlock PIN may be? Or should I take it into a Telecom store?

A quick read ion the net shows that it an initial unlocking from when I first bought it may have been reversed during the update.

Thanks.

1332720 2013-03-14 10:15:00 Ahhh you'll have the same problem as me, my phone randomly "unlocked" itself too.

Follow this thread on XDA forum.xda-developers.com I see the link has been removed so you can download the unlocking app from here samsung-updates.com

I found it was better to "bruteforce" or patch the nvdata.bin file, rather than generate a code. For some reason generating the code didn't work, probably something to do with the fact it "locked" itself again,

I might note, when I skim read the XDA link it mentioned needing ROOT access, I have always had root, never bothered with stock ROM's, if you want to make the leap the *best* ROM in my opinion is the SuperNexus ROM by a dev called faryaab It's amazing. Android 4.2.2, pretty much vanillia android, as on the nexus.

Here's the latest build of SN forum.xda-developers.com

1332721 2013-03-14 11:05:00 Apologies for hijacking this thread.

One thing that I do miss after installing SuperNexus on my S2 is the ability to toggle WiFi / Bluetooth etc. from the notification bar. As a result, I have to always go into the settings, then toggle the necessary features (alternatively I can toggle from the toggle widget on my homescreen, but that necessitates pressing the homescreen button first)

That certainly is one of the big downsides for me too actually. I used powertoggles app from the play store but it sadly didn't allow a long press to enter the settings for the app, eg press and hold on WiFi to enter settings, tap to toggle on/off. With 4.2.2 google added their own settings menu, but it it's a little annoying and almost defeats its own purpose. Hitting one of the icons takes you directly to the settings, rather than toggling the power state. eg tapping WiFi goes to WiFi settings.

I believe there is a way to install the toggles in the ROM, I really should look into it, but Renmoo is right. SuperNexus is sadly lacking that feature. A lot of other ROM's have it, but they aren't as good overall IMO.

Here's a screenshot of googles "new" menu, tapping on that little icon in the top right gets you there.

1332723 2013-03-14 20:35:00 +1 for Power Toggles. First saw something like it on a Samsung phone - Chill recommended (IIRC) it and I'm running it on my Nexus 4 - awesome! The benefits of the Samsung widget without having to put up with Touchwiz!! johcar (6283)
1332724 2013-03-14 20:36:00 You can also pull it down using two fingers to go straight to the Quick Toggles. It's just a shame they're not as intuitive, some you push and hold to toggle (Like WiFi), others you just tap to toggle (Like Airplane mode). Chilling_Silence (9)
1332725 2013-03-14 22:34:00 Ohh, I didn't know about the two finger drag! That's nifty, although it's still a real bummer that things like BT, WiFi etc etc are not tap on/off. Also google should just implement a flashlight right into the OS, nearly everyone with a capable phone has a flashlight app installed. The Error Guy (14052)
1332726 2013-03-16 22:12:00 My phone wasn't rooted so it is now and there was a nice wee app that I downloaded from the PlayStore which unlocked my sim so all good now - back up and running.

Thanks.

1332727 2013-03-17 03:48:00 Glad the app worked for ya, I didn't mention it originally because when mine did the exact same thing it wouldn't work. Ran for a good 40+ mins but failed to unlock each time. The Error Guy (14052)
