Just because there is a God doesn't mean physics doesn't exist ;) Well put Chill. Loved the tl;dr... +1 |

| 1332596 | 2013-03-15 03:29:00 | I tried reading Disco's post, my eyes glazed over and I lost interest about half way through - Good effort getting that far I say. I agree with the underlying message mostly, not a believer myself. It is a bit harsh though. To rehash my other post, mentioning an event again 800 years later is not corroborating evidence. I think the important bit is that you can neither prove nor disprove the existence of God. Somehwere in internet world I read a quote from a philosopher which I've largely forgotten but the gist of it went along the lines of you should live life as if god exists even if you don't believe he does. The reasoning being something along the lines of if he does exist and you behave yourself it'll be worth it, and if he doesn't no real harm done. I don't practice that myself but I thought it was one of the better arguments I've seen (the problem being of course which of the many versions of "God" to follow). My personal philosphy is as long as people treat each other decently let them believe whatever they want. That and I think we can all make fun of scientology.... (sorry just had to, it has to be the most ridiculous of all religions in my opinion). |

| 1332600 | 2013-03-15 04:42:00 | They are very predictable, aren't they? Types like Johcar, R2x1 and pcuser42 are not people who would come up with a serious comment, they just poo-poo anything to do with religion. You were not asked to believe, just to consider the possibility. Thanks Chill and Kenj. Some people are capable of serious comment no matter what they believe. Personally, I find it most interesting. I had never thought of any other reason why Judas would have kissed Jesus. The popular belief is, of course, to betray him, but I never would have thought it was because he could change his appearance. Something else to ponder.+1 |

Types like Johcar, R2x1 and pcuser42 are not people who would come up with a serious comment, they just poo-poo anything to do with religion . You were not asked to believe, just to consider the possibility . Thanks Chill and Kenj . Some people are capable of serious comment no matter what they believe . I will comment seriously on serious topics and have done in the past - however since I don't take religion seriously, this won't be one of them . My personal belief is that there is no god (or God, or gods or Flying Spaghetti Monster) for a multitude of reasons, which I will not go into here - or we'll end up with another tl;dr post . I have many friends and relations who do believe in some kind of invisible friend, and I am happy for them to believe whatever makes them happy - if they are doing no harm to others . Which most aren't . But religions - or religious arguments - are, and have been the biggest killer of human beings (after malaria, I think) in the whole of human history . So I see no reason to try to 'pick a side' and support what I see as basically a silly idea . Every man and his dog could come up with some weird belief system - that's no reason to adopt any of them . I'm with dugimodo on this one: My personal philosophy is as long as people treat each other decently let them believe whatever they want . Personally, I find it most interesting . I had never thought of any other reason why Judas would have kissed Jesus . The popular belief is, of course, to betray him, but I never would have thought it was because he could change his appearance . Something else to ponder . Perhaps Judas was gay . Perhaps he was leaving the party and wanted to say goodbye . Perhaps it was a signal to the Romans . Who knows? What's the point of speculating over the actions of one man 2000 years after the fact? The shape-shifter item is just ridiculous - and not worth "serious comment" . |
