They can usually be identified by their Flash Lycra clothing and a $2000+ cycle.

They seem to think that once they have all this attire fitted they are bomb proof and can do what they like on the roads. Some will even go to extreme lengths to enforce what they see as their rights and some have paid the ultimate price for doing so.

A while ago now I attended a wedding in Auckland and on the Sunday morning thought I’d take a look at the waterfront around to Mission Bay. Well, I’ve never seen so many wanting to decorate the bonnet of my car. It was either the same day or a week later I noted a small article in one of the papers reporting the demise of one of them.

Frankly, I like a sign I saw in Aus which read: “Your Safety is our Concern but Your Responsibility!”

Sort of sums it up the way I see it. ;)

What amazes me is the scum who will bike on the road when there is a cycle way next to it but they too good for it because its a bit slower. Esp over Mission Bay way.

Dead right and if they’re wearing their “Look at Me Lycra” they’ll demand them alright, and loose.

Ive got to agree.
- if you choose to cycle on some of the most cycle-dangerous roads in AK ,a road where there has been a few cyclists deaths, then SURELY the cyclist is as much to blame for taking such an unnecessary risk.
Who was at fault is of little consequence after you get squished by a car.
Lets be honest, most are using bikes for recreation: on busy roads where cars drivers actually hate them. Its a bit like playing ruby or jogging on busy roads, not really the most sensible thing to do.
Skateboarders/longboarders were seen as idiots for using public roads to go down, its not really any different for cyclists

Yes I do own a bike, no Im not anti-cyclist
Some of these roads popular with cyclists could easily be made bike friendly/safe . The cycleways on footpaths often arnt really usuable.
