1355059 2013-10-04 07:16:00 According to info I have read programs that run on Win7 should run on Win8 but will these programs run on 64-bit Win8? I have a number of old programs that run fine on my 32-bit Win7 that I would like to keep using but am not sure if they will survive an upgrade to 64-bit Win8. FoxyMX (5)
1355060 2013-10-04 07:30:00 16-bit software won't work on 64-bit Windows 8, but otherwise I can't imagine you should have too many problems. :) pcuser42 (130)
1355061 2013-10-04 07:35:00 Some programs will run fine, some wont. Even some programs that claim to work OK in W8 wont. (Had that today :angry -- Dont ask its a damn short fuse at the moment ) :p

Sometimes you have to suck it and see. Just make a restore point before you install any program, that way if it all turns pear shaped you can run system Restore and put everything back to how it was.

1355062 2013-10-04 07:53:00 Thanks guys, sounds promising.

I do actually have a well-used program from Windows 95 which runs perfectly well on Win7. Looks like I might have to look for a more recent version. :p

1355063 2013-10-04 08:20:00 It might still work if it's 32-bit... pcuser42 (130)
1355064 2013-10-05 03:51:00 I wouldn't have a clue whether it was 16-bit or 32-bit so will just have to try it and see. There is a more recent version but a lot of people have had problems with it so I think I will stay away from it. FoxyMX (5)
1355065 2013-10-05 06:37:00 Sometimes you get weird ones, I used to play total annihilation until quite recently and since whatever version of windows dumped 16 bit support I've had to install it by manually copying the files and creating the shortcuts because the program is 32bit and compatible but the installer is 16 bit and won't run.

Anyway with my move from 7 to 8 I have yet to encounter anything that won't run and I think the majority of people would be the same. There will be exceptions and it sounds like Wainui has encountered one. Only way to know is give it a try.
