211357 2004-01-30 23:08:00 The IT guy for my main client introduced me to Linux - first of all to Mandrake. I have since shifted over to Fedora and it suits me better.

However, now the IT guy says Xandros is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and he is going to supply me with a set of disks (legit of course).

So in answer to your question, no, but I will soon :-)

He indicates that it beats the others for ease of networking. He says it also includes wireless networking which I have not been able to use with either Mandrake or Fedora, but I will wait and see until I believe him - Fedora can work with wireless networking, but there is no driver yet for my device so I suspect the same problem will be true of Xandros.

Apparently it has the ability to run Windoze apps should you wish to.

I will let you know in a week or two!

211358 2004-01-30 23:10:00 Oh, I should have said. Unlike the others, you cannot download Xandros without paying through the nose. I have only found one download site and that is Xandros themselves. To download you first have to pay $US89.

That is a fair old disincentive - it would need to be much better than the others to command that sort of price.

211359 2004-01-31 04:05:00 Lindows also specialises in running Windows programs.

Apparently Xandros still tries to somewhat hide the fact that it _is_ Linux and acts a lot like you'd expect Windows to.

Wine will also let you run Windows apps, or WineX for games.

Ark Linux is a lot like Xandros (apparently, Ive only just tried Ark, never Xandros), but doesnt hide the fact that its Linux. Its a good OS for n00b's too :-)

Chill.
