211352 2004-01-30 22:25:00 Hi.
Sometime ago I used the PC World CD version of XP Service Pack 1 to upgrade my version of XP, finding new drivers incidentally was a bit of a mission. My real issues lie with IIS.
I've tried on a number of ocassions to try and install IIS on my pc. I go through the proper procedure through the control panel but when prompted for the XP SP1 CD i hit a wall. I dont have the microsoft CD version. I've put in my original XP CD but of course that doesnt work nor does inserting the PC WOrld CD and pointing to the appropriate folder.

I have even tried to point it to my a folder on my HDD but there seems to be missing files in particular INFOCOMM.DL being one of them.

There is an ISS folder in my i386 folder in Windows.

Can anyone offer any advice please?
My intention is to start learning and developing Dynamic apps with Flash/Dreamweaver and asp .Net. Some one suggested using Apache but i have heard that Apache is more suited to php and mySql as opposed to .Net and SQL SERVER

Thanks for your help

211354 2004-01-31 09:32:00 Uhuh, and SQL Server comes with a four-figure price tag ;)

If you don't currently have any knowledge of ASP[.NET], I would advise you to learn PHP instead, and use Apache and MySQL. While there is a free version of SQL Server (MSDE), it isn't licenced to be used as the backend for a web server serving requests to clients.

I think your problem with installing IIS is SP1. If you can try reinstalling XP from scratch, install IIS, then apply SP1, it should work.
