211393 2004-01-30 08:54:00 It has been quite a while since we had a similar thread. It is a chance to post what your main desktop looks like and what fancy themes/styles/wallpapers you have. Bit of fun and it is always interesting to see other people's desktops :D

For those who are not familiar with taking screenshots, I have posted below some instructions.

Taking Screenshots of your computer desktop

Requirements
You will need a graphic program installed that you can save your screenshot into, as well as saving it as a jpg or jpeg format.

Windows XP
You can use the preinstalled Paint program. Found under Start | All Programs | Accessories

Windows ME/98se/98/95
You will need a third-party program as these Paint versions does not support saving images as jpg.

If you do not already have a graphic program to use, the following program is suitable:

Irfan View (tucows.ihug.co.nz) - Freeware |WinALL | 817 KB

Linux

Some distro's will have a Screen Capture Program already, or use GIMP > File | Acquire | Screen Shot

TAKING THE SCREENSHOT:

Before you take a screenshot of your desktop minimise all open Windows.
1 Look on the keyboard for the key labelled "Print Scrn" or "Print Screen" and push it once to take the screenshot.
2 Open up your graphic program and paste your screenshot in. This can normally be done by going Edit > Paste. However your program may vary, so read the help files if unsure.
3 Save the image as a jpg (or png) format by using the "save as" function and using the drop-down to select this format. Use lowercase to name your image and a underscore for spaces eg jen desk.jpg => jen_desk.jpg

UPLOADING THE SCREENSHOT:

Screenshots can be uploaded to ImageF1 (sal.neoburn.net) - a site owned and mantained by forum member sal. This site is generously been set up so that PressF1 members can upload images that are relevant to posts made on PressF1 - please do not abuse this generousity.

Notes:
* Try to keep the file size under 150 KB for easy page loading for viewers
* Name the file something other than desktop.jpg so that duplicate file names do not occur
* Keep the jpg or png extension as lowercase
* Read the Information (sal.neoburn.net) on the ImageF1 site for further details

Under the File to upload heading, click the "Browse" button and browse to where you have saved your screenshot on your hard drive. Once you have selecting it, click on the "Upload" button. Depending on your internet connection speed, this may take a minute or two.

After successfully uploading your image you will see a URL for your image - copy and paste that into your post so that people can link to and view your desktop.

Have fun, and if you get stuck, just ask :)

211395 2004-01-30 08:59:00 Here's Mine (sal.neoburn.net) - the desktop icons aren't located in the best of places - mainly because I find it detracts from the desktop. Apart from that, that's it. cyberchuck (173)

211401 2004-01-30 09:53:00 Some great desktops so far :)

But don't forget to include your actual desktop: icons, taskbar, warts and all. :D

211402 2004-01-30 09:54:00 My mandrake 9.2 desktop is here (homepages.paradise.net.nz). I left a konq. window up to show off the nice-because-its-plain-unlike-keramik Plastik theme, everything else is just the default.

The background came from nzlenscape (http://www.nzlenscape.com/).

My windows desktop doesn't even have a wallpape set so its not worth a screenshot.
