211187 2004-01-30 01:15:00 got a grumpy phone call from my mum this morning and she tells me that she cant get the interweb thing to work.......

I have discovered that Ihug have changed there dial up numbers and have not been telling as many people as they should.

after talking with Ihug about this they tell me that emails are being sent to affected user as required.

all residential dial up customers should be using 087 300 777

the 0867 33322 number is being turned off one city at a time over the next few weeks.

full instruction for changing to the new number at at ihug web site.

211188 2004-01-30 01:17:00 How handy that emails are being sent to those affected users who can't connect to download their email anyway. antmannz (28)
211189 2004-01-30 01:18:00 I have been told that emails will be sent "a few days" before the old number is removed from use. :-) robsonde (120)

you sure about that number? Aren't they supposed to be 0867, instead of 087, or is that part of the change?

I apologise most profusely robsonde, I just checked the ihug page, and they list the number in a slightly different format, but exactly the number you gave...

Just ignore me - I'll be in my hole... :D

211192 2004-01-30 09:19:00 as far as i have been told the change is being "forced" on ihug by telecom, I dont know why. robsonde (120)

Could be standardization?
Xtra's dialup has long been 087 303030 so maybe they're trying to put all data connections on an 087 number instead of 0867 or 0876 or whatever it was? ?:|

211194 2004-01-30 09:51:00 I recall when Telecom introduced the 0867 number that they forced ISPs to use these numbers or their clients would pay 2c min when use over 10 hours a month of net access .

Telecom's Xtra used 087, and I found an old article about it that explains that 0867, 0873 and 0800 ISP numbers will reman free .

Why are they getting rid of the 0867's?
