| 211171 | 2004-01-30 01:11:00 | Hi, For those among us who own one, what are the great things about a mini-disc player? I'm thinking about buying once, and I can think of a couple of nice things about it, like you can play far more MP3's with it than a CD and a discman, a discman is a big lump and heavy to carry in your pocket, while mini-disc's are pocket-sized, but what are the other great things about it? As far as I know, the price is probably the only down-sider, unless youv'e got heaps of monery, but I'm guessing that $400 might turn a few interested folks away for now. Also, is it easy to tranfer music from your computer to a mini-disc player? I'd appreciate some feedback on this. Cheers, |

Like DAT, it never caught on, so it stays an expensive one. :_| As far as I know, the only way to transfer music to MD is to play the music to a line input on the MD recorder. So "real time". Probably an MP3 player is a better idea, unless you are planning on recording at concerts. :D The flash memory MP3 players are even lighter and smaller ... the disk ones hold much more (though the cost is a bit high). |

| 211175 | 2004-01-30 03:45:00 | I have a Sony MZ-N510 Mini Disc player, and have had it for several months now so I will give you as much information as I can . The mini disc player/recorder that I have currently retailes at $400, and would be the best option in terms of functions to price . There are several extra costs you should keep in mind before buying an MD player . Mini discs normally come in packs of 3 for $12 approx, better quality headphones are $40+ (MD players retail with earplugs which have an awkardly shapped cord and are bad quality), and optionally car kits are $40 - I found this well worth it . There are several positive points about MD players . They are small, light weight, have flawless anti-shock, several formats (mp3, wwa, own format with 3 quality settings . . . ), several transfer methods (optical cord to stereo, net md/usb to computer) . Also dependant on which format you save in you can fit approx 70 songs per min disc! My friend has an ipod, and we both agree mini disc players are far better when you consider all the aspects . OK . . you have MDLP but the quality goes down, furthermore if you were to use it on the car you would need a downgraded analogue tape coverter or get a $$ MD head unit . In terms of size, MD is comparative to others if not larger and you do have to carry MD tapes . I would prefer a Mp3 like 256MB+ if I needed the mobility like with international or national travelling, if you not too picky can be used analogue with the tape unit . CD walkman is not bad bit bulky but then you can use the v common CD head units in the avg car . I have a Sony MD micro system with CD/MD . MD is used for my recordings, CD is originals . I will not get a MD walkman . . . If you do a LOT of recordings and deleting then this is one good thing about MD . |
