211128 2004-01-29 23:28:00 Hi folks.

A new hole or old one revisited has been found in IE that would allow someone of doubtful morals to to run virtually anything they like on your PC.

Have a look at this (computerworld.co.nz) article from IDG, to find out more.

If you are still using IE & OE it may be time to consider your options. It would also seem reasonable, that if MS can't fix the problem, that the windows update site could be used with other browsers than IE.

211129 2004-01-29 23:50:00 Just tested it at Secunia's site, and it was immediately caught and notified by my AV program (McAfee). godfather (25)
211130 2004-01-30 00:17:00 Mozilla Firebird (my browser of choice) was fine but IE was spoofed completely with no alerts from any of the software I have running (PCcillin, Kerio). Was it the AV part of McAfee or firewall that picked it up (does it have a firewall)?

211131 2004-01-30 00:20:00 BTW this is the Secunia link (www.secunia.com) to the test.

211132 2004-01-30 00:31:00 The more serious one mentioned in the article is here (secunia.com _Test/). bmason (508)
211133 2004-01-30 00:36:00 Mine failed miserably. Mr Norton didn’t so much as bat an eyelid! :(

Better check if there's any patches I guess!

211134 2004-01-30 00:49:00 Aha! Kerio jumped on the second one (thanks Brett). If I let Kerio permit the action, IE had no idea, Mozilla on the other hand displayed the spoofed file in the open/save dialogue box. Verrry interesting.
