211524 2004-02-03 03:15:00 And to lower the file size without making the dispalyed picture smaller you need to adjust the quality level downwards.

I use photoshop and when i save a jpeg i have the option to save as high, low, medium and it gives a reading on how long that file at that level would take to load on a 28k modem.

I presume other programs do something silmilar...One that i use when doing lots of photos is

www.fookes.com

Its for thumbnails but you can save to any size and it has compression levels.

I like a clean desktop and hate not being able to remove the recycle bin icon from it.

I guess you've succeeded, in marked contrast with another entry which had icons everywhere..

211529 2004-02-03 05:12:00 Some very nice themes being used - you have got me keen to dress up my XP a bit more. :D

sandyb: thanks for the great link to http://www.senselessviolins.com/ , some very nice artwork by the site owner.

beetle: that driver obviously parks in Auckland's CBD frequently, you need those sort of parallel parking skills to fit in the parking spaces :-p

dumdum: your wallpaper looks very nice.

You can do this with TweakUI for XP - download from here (www.microsoft.com) - The program is called Tweak UI (147 KB file). After you have installed it, open it up and click on the Desktop name. In the right-hand pane you will see the Desktop Icons displayed. Remove the ticks from the icons you don't want displayed and click Apply and OK.

And you`re right, there are some great desktops about,a credit to the owners I reckon.
Off to do a bit of Tweak UIing.
Cheers

211531 2004-02-03 06:10:00 As far as I can tell, beetle has used MS Paint (Correct?!)

What's happened is the Canvas is absolutely massive...

Over the right there will be a scroll bar, scroll right to the bottom
Down the bottom of the screen is the second scroll bar, scroll all the way right.

Now, near the bottom-right corner of MS Paint, you'll see a little dot. Click and drag that towards the top-left hand corner of your screen. This is now resizing your canvas.

Shrink it down so its around 2-3cm large on your screen.

From there, take a new screen shot and paste it into the smaller canvas.

It will then ask you "Do you want the picture to be resized to fit the image" or something to that effect, simply click yes and it will automatically stretch the white canvas to the correct size for your image.

Save and upload :-)

Metla, that won't have been a Satellite image, but an aerial photo (taken from a plane). We have photos at work at a resolution of .125m (that's 12.5cm per pixel - each pixel of the image represents about 12.5cm of the real thing). Most Councils (and other agencies/companies) around the country have aerial photos of their area.

A lot of satellite pictures you see around the place are not one photo, but a mosaic of many photos to produce one nice looking image - it cuts out clouds, shadows and other things.

They're not used to spy on people :) And as they're often only updated once every 5 years, they're usually quite out-of-date.
