211988 2004-02-01 01:51:00 hmmm.... there are problems with links to dse pages, so go to the dse homepage, and type L0040 in the search box Megaman (344)
211989 2004-02-01 02:03:00 If you are in Fiji, there is a technical term describing your chances of getting UHF TV from New Zealand. SOL. :D

UHF doesn't bend around the curve of the Earth. Even if it did, the path loss would kill the signal anyway.

Sorry. The programmes are rubbish anyway if that's any consolation. :D

211990 2004-02-01 02:45:00 if you can see the waitaks you most likly don't need a booster. try to avoid useing one if at all expecially masthead as there is alsorts of traps that will stop it working.

btw that dse is crappy. bloody hills crap tho it seams to have a different psu than they normally come with.

first thing to do is connect uhf aerial directly to tv with no boosters or other parts of the aerial system. tune in tv and see what it looks like.

dse normall have ok instuction books on how to setup the aerial system.

211991 2004-02-01 03:08:00 Ditto tweak'e's advice, if in Dominion road you don't need a booster.

You should be able to pick up some weak UHF signals just by poking a short length of wire into the antena socket. Prime TV is particularly easy to get.

1) Does your TV have a UHF tuner (not a silly question, because depending on age some don't).

2) Are you sure your TV is tuned for the signals, or are you waiting until the antenna is functioning before you try to tune it in?

3) Have you used the correct cable to join the antenna to the TV?

4) Is it wired correctly? Coaxial cable requires special attention when wiring at both ends and it is easy to accidentally short it out. I have seen plenty of home-owner installs with the inner & outer twisted together and just pushed into the back of the plug.

5) What make/model/size is the TV? Can you take it to somebody else's house (with functioning UHF) and test it/tune it in?

6) You are not trying to receive Sky without a decoder are you? Again not a silly question, many have tried, all have failed.

Cheers

211992 2004-02-01 03:25:00 Another thought, are you sure you have a booster already? The box mounted on the antenna is a balun transformer to match the antenna to the coax cable.

Boosters don't usually come with the antenna and you woudn't have one unless you specifically asked for it. You would sure as hell remember paying an extra $148 dollars on top of the antenna price.

3) we just moved it to this house and before this tv had prime and triangle tv tuned

5) Iam sure the booster is installed there because i went to dse 2day to see it and it looked the same as the on my roof.

211994 2004-02-01 09:25:00 very comman thing here is the power supply to be missing which causes the amp not to work hence no pics. also the psu needs to be installed in the correct place and the correct way around. tweak'e (174)
211995 2004-02-01 18:50:00 tweak'e, are you talking about that adapter supplied with the package well dont you think its for carvans and boats. read in the discripion. and what is psu? Gum Digger (5187)
211996 2004-02-01 19:49:00 Mast head amplifiers need power to run. Without it they will block signals, not amplify them. They don't run on "fresh air" but a power source.

Depending on the type of amplifier, power is supplied in different ways. One common way is for a special adaptor in-line with the antenna cable coming from the amplifier, which puts a low voltage power source back up the antenna line to power the unit.

If you have an amplifier, and no source of power for it, it will not work. Plain and simple.

As tweak'e says, its not unusual for that unit to "disappear" with the last owner as its among the leads to the TV set.
