211773 2004-02-04 20:28:00 I think you are probably on to it Jim. Only problem is that there is so little info in the error message and details, except for the fact that there is a mini dump, that you can gain no idea as to the errors nature and if it is a continuiing one, with the OS more interested in reporting home than helping the user (I'll stick to 2K thanks). It's probably reasonable to apply the patch(es) anyway but it's still somewhat of a shot in the dark and if that is not the problem may just lead to having to apply it again later once things are cleaned up.

Is it possible to turn the auto, online, error reporting off in XP as it is in 2K?

Toxic, do a search for error or mini dump logs, you might at least find what out what system files are being mentioned in amongst all the hex numbers.

211774 2004-02-04 20:43:00 You can turn it off in XP, as it is a service???
Go into control panel-admin tools-services and double click on "error reporting service"

211775 2004-02-04 20:47:00 If I interpret the error notification correctly, then this installation of XP has no service packs applied?

SP 0_0 ? Surely not .

Stack Pointers perhaps ??

211776 2004-02-04 21:03:00 Yeh, I'd say the system is quite vulnerable to anything thats going due to some of the patches and crtical updates being consecative .

The report tool still seems to me, to be lacking in info but very interested in fronting with the OS versions and info rather than the error . Whats more important identifying the event or error or the user and OS? IMO the info they put first could be carried in the body of the message . Anyway, having a rant re MS world domination culture and practices doesn't help the problem .

Clean out the system as much as you can before applying, at least the service packs and critical updates to the OS, if you can get them without going online, all the better .

211777 2004-02-05 00:42:00 Hi toxicbass,

The picture of that error message I have seen quite often but not the same strings. It can sometimes be related to incompatible software. Commonly Roxio's/Adaptecs Easy CD Creator displayed this error message constantly when I switched from Win2K to WinXP.

Is all the software you run compatible to WinXP Home. Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for errors corresponding to the crash, double click the error, the information contained within may give a clue as to the source of the problem.
