211765 2004-01-31 08:24:00 Disable all programs that are launching on start-up.

reboot.

If the problem has gone then its just a case of finding out which one caused it thru elimination.

A good clean out of spyware wont hurt either.

211767 2004-01-31 22:03:00 Did you disable everything on start up and see if the error disapeared?

and run a reg cleaner.

211768 2004-01-31 22:32:00 It would pay to remove Gozilla completely from your system and see if that helps. Read and follow the instructions in the forum's Spyware FAQ (link to FAQs at top right of this page). tommy (2826)
211769 2004-02-04 10:36:00 Yes i removed EVERYTHING but the things i DO want to startup in msconfig

211770 2004-02-04 11:33:00 "Spybot" is a great malware killer. It also gives real-time protection from adware and dialers with its "immunize" feature, great for keeping nasties out of ones machine. Also has some other useful tools, (like prevention of IE home page hi-jacking) and is good at ferreting out problems.

Combining Spybot with Adaware, a good firewall, antivirus program, all the latest updates and safe email/file-sharing practices (have a look at "Mailwasher" for "remotely" checking email and deleting at the mailserver), should go a long way to keeping things running well.

For deepseated remnants, JV16 Power tools is good at finding and cleaning up all sorts of junk in the registry and filesystem. Its surprising what "left-overs" you can still find in the registry, even after using the standard clean up tools.

Although its user friendly, doing the wrong thing could cause serious consequences (the standard warning!) so making sure the registry is backed up, and/or a system "snapshot" taken before doing too much is a wise and reccomended prcedure.

I've had minimal experience with XP, so this is only general advice. I recently used these techniques to restore a friends heavily "infected" family XP computer back to a "clean" state after lengthy sessions with Adaware, spybot, and JV16.... there were over 600 nasties of all sorts....

For the sake of troubleshooting disable even the stuff you want to run and reboot. You can enable it all when u have fixed the problem.
