2004-02-02 02:49:00 | Are you being serious here, or just taking the p? | Lohsing (219) | |
2004-02-02 02:53:00 | Very Serious. I've never heard of hyper threading, and now I'm doing it.Is it good , bad, or immaterial. Jack

2004-02-02 02:56:00 | You must have a P4 Intel CPU with an 800 FSB. It's good you have this chip, although to fully use its capabilities, you need to be running Windows XP Home or Pro. Windows 2000 doesn't support Hyperthreading. Lo.

2004-02-02 02:59:00 | Excellent. In that case read this (www.tomshardware.com) and this (www.intel.com). | Lohsing (219) | |
2004-02-02 03:00:00 | this is all good think of two CPUs working as a team to get stuff done faster. hyper threading (HT) is an intel thing, they put two CPUs in one chip. a thread is a program or one small part of a program. so think of your email running in one CPU and your web pages in the other CPU. depending on what you use your computer for you can get as much as 80% faster then a standard CPU.

2004-02-02 03:10:00 | Amazing!. Now I also know why device manager tells me I have two CPU's. Believe it or not I took the lid off my box last week to see if I realy did have two CPU's. Now all I have to do is to find something to do with it. Apart from e-mail and genealogical research. Jack

2004-02-02 03:11:00 | But just be amazed at how quickly it waits for you to hit the next key.:D | Graham L (2) | |
2004-02-02 03:19:00 | Would hyper threading have anything to do with download speed. This morning I downloaded SP 1 from MS. 41.9 mb's in two hours ten minutes with a V90 modem. Fastest download speed I've ever seen. Jack
