212160 2004-02-01 21:17:00 My hard drive on my lap top is partioned into C and D. C has 2GB and D has 28 GB. I have installed 2000 on C and it is almost up to capacity. I have moves as much as I dared over to D but it has made little difference. I have tried deleting Netware, Outlook Express but they seem to be protected. Hare is the best and safest place to start to free up some serious memory? PJKing (2630)
212161 2004-02-01 21:47:00 repartition it so c is 5-10 gig in size. tweak'e (174)
212162 2004-02-01 21:51:00 Does not work...seems to hard partioned. PJKing (2630)
212163 2004-02-01 21:53:00 First changer your swap file (virtual memory) to the bigger drive. Right click MyComputer icon then chooses properties then click the advanced tab. Then change the Virtual Memory setting to the D: and set it to about double the amount of Ram you have eg if you have 512 megs installed set the max and min to 1 gig.

Then deleted your Restore files by turning off the restore feature and then rebooting. Once you are back in then you can turn the restore back on and create a restore point.

Then open OE and remove as many of the ose old emails that you can (both sent and received) then go click on Tools --> Options ---> Maintenance and click on the Store Folder button about halfway down the window. Change you email store folder to your D: (perhaps something like D:\E-mail or something like that).

When that is done then go in c:\documents and settings\[Username]\Local Settings\Temp (where username is your username, you may also have to change the folder options to view hidden and system files to see the local settings folder) once you are there then you can delete everything in that folder.

Then if you want you can uninstall any programs you want including office and then reinstall then again but install them to the D: (something like D:\programs etc)

When all that is done then run a defrag and scan disk, you should now have plenty of room.

212164 2004-02-01 22:10:00 Thanks for that....I will try as you suggest.

A couple of questions - where is the Restor feature that you mention?

Office etc have all been installed on D already and I use Outlook 2000 and the data .pst etc are all on D already.....which is why I am so surprised about how little space I have on C:

212165 2004-02-01 22:25:00 System restore Right click My computer Icon and choose properties the there will either be a System Restore Tab or the system restore option will be in the Advanced Tab (I can't remember which for win2000, I really must put VM Ware back on) :-) Odin (227)
212166 2004-02-01 22:33:00 Much obliged....lots of space now freed up.

THanks again.
