| 212292 | 2004-02-05 00:01:00 | Im assuming that your goin to buy a 2.6C or 2.8C chip not a 2.6B or 2.8B. This will mean that would will need a motherboard that has a chipset supporting Hyperthreading and a 800mhz FSB. This means you'll want a motherboard with either the Intel Springdale or Canterwood chipsets(or 865PE or 875P). There are other chipset avaliable but theres offer the best preformance and stability. YOu are gonna struggle to find a board based or the 875P/865PE chipset for under $200, if you were to increase the budget to $230ish you could get a: ASUS P4P800 If you really want to keep the price under $200 you have a look at the GigaByte GA-8I848E-L, this uses the Intel 848P chipset which is similar to the 875P/865PE but without support for Dual Channel RAM(Dual Channel adds about 5-10% increase in preformance) GigaByte GA-8I848E-L (www.giga-byte.com) other boards worth considering are the Abit AI7 and Intel D865PERLX. Both will be over your budget but are good boards. |
