212213 2004-02-02 03:20:00 no, download speed is all in the moden and the ISP robsonde (120)
212214 2004-02-02 07:42:00 and protocol and line condition. A farfetched scenario (tho i doubt it) is that you have a really silly software modem that performs horribly without a massive uber cpu. Growly (6)

212216 2004-02-02 08:51:00 Besides,a soft modem has no effect on a cpu over 400mhz,which is partly the reson they took off in popularity.

Unless your in a rural location or have extremly poor lines then an external modem does not make 1 bit of difference.

212217 2004-02-02 09:28:00 That download comes out at a theoretical sustained connect speed of 47kb. If the file was compressable, its a lot less (I allowed 10% for overheads)

Thats within the abilities of a 56 kb modem. At the upper end of the abilities, unless it was highly compressable (not a jpg/mp3/mpeg compressed type file) in which case its probably below 40 Kb equivalent.
