212770 2004-02-04 07:37:00 Also have a look at this FAQ:FAQ # 5 Why does scandisk/defrag restart after only 10%? (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz)

Note: This FAQ might be a wee bit slow loading.

212771 2004-02-04 07:39:00 OK first off Welcome to PF1,

In my understanding when you defrag it is best not to have any other programs running,

We have a FAQ on this very thing, click on top right corner FAQS, but be prepared for a lengthy time to load, well worth the read,
quite an interesting amount of questions in this section to look at (apart from the defrag one)

Also i understand when it wont work at all people have been known to do a defrag in safe mode, i have not tried this so could be wrong.

But would try again when nothing is running,
and you dont say what system specs you have, but i think if you have a lot of mem / space taken up and you havent done this for a while a defrag can take a little while so be prepared for the wait.

212772 2004-02-04 07:45:00 Slow loading???? Just as well I didn't want to read it. After 8 minutes on my broadband connection it still hadn't loaded. Not downloading anything else at the same time. Elephant (599)
212773 2004-02-04 08:07:00 Ctrl+alt+delete, taskmanager, shut down all processes you don't have to run and then try defrag again. If you don't know what processes must run then you will have to read the faq. zqwerty (97)
