2004-02-05 04:41:00 | John: If you typed telinit 3 and bash complained that telenit didn't exist, one of you can't spell. :D Howver, if you did "su" without the " -", that would explain why it couldn't be found: you'ld be still using your account's path, not the root path. System type commands like init (which is what telinit points to)aren't in the default user path. (I think it's in /sbin, so you could try "/sbin/telinit 3" -- locate telinit should find it.)

2004-02-05 05:18:00 | Get a grip,I applaud the concept behind Linux, the people who have coded Linux and the users who dedicate time to learning and using Linux.Following the progress of people using Linux has proved to be quite interesting over the last few months MS on the other hand I hope get what they deserve. However,All this work to update a gui is ridicules(not to say people shouldn't do it or shouldn't enjoy doing it)

And in the ultimate show of shallowness,I find every linux system/desktop/gui i have looked at to be ugly . |

2004-02-05 20:53:00 | w00t after fighting thorough all those dependincies, i am now running kde 3.2! | ilikelinux (1418) | |
2004-02-06 00:42:00 | WooHoo, mine is going now too, thanks to Jen C's careful instructions and subsequent clarification about init from others. Only had three failed dependcies - qt-designer; qt-MySQL; and qt-OBDC all needed lib files that I couldn't find, so I bailed out and removed those three rpms from the KDE-3.2 directory, dived back into root and the installation was smooth as after that. So thank you all for your help. Another lesson learned.
