212753 2004-02-11 02:10:00 The dse model has a celeron 2.2ghz in it,the qmb model has a p4 2.6 in her.

Whats a celeron 2.2 performence relative to?

A sack of potatoes?

I would not touch anything with a celeron chip in it,and the price difference to get a p4 is very little.

212754 2004-02-11 02:46:00 Probably...
As far as I know Celerons are only good for people who have little money and/or overclocking ;-)

212755 2004-02-11 02:52:00 A celeron is simply the worst performing widely available cpu on the market,in recent testing the 2.4 celeron was far slower then a duron 1.6 cpu.

Whats the point?

They should be withdrawn from the market.

212756 2004-02-11 03:20:00 Is the different CPU worth the extra $200, + $25 postage), and the lack of being able to get a 5 year warrenty?

I'm pretty much a low end user. I want the laptop for writing, playing movies, and playing the few games. Because of the graphics situation, it wouldn't run high end stuff like BF1942, so the extra processer spped probably wouldn't be that advantagous...?

Thankyou!

212757 2004-02-11 03:25:00 Well, thats a tough call and one only you can really decide upon based on what you want.

Personally i would grab the p4,but then im not you so it doesnt really apply.....

212758 2004-02-11 03:43:00 Quite apart from its merit (or otherwise) a sa CPU, Celeron had to be one of the dumbest names Intel came up with. Its so weak sounding. I mean if you knew nothing about the chips, but someone offered you a:

a] Pentium
b]Xeon
or
c] Celeron

which would you go for. Pentium sounds solid and reliable. Xeon sounds spacey and exciting. But Celeron sounds like an exotic vegetable.

212759 2004-02-11 04:13:00 But you want a computer to have some crunch.

Although the name is already taken, a better name for the Palladium nonsense would be Pajero.

212760 2004-02-11 07:11:00 Theres always second hand... although this probably could be a bit dodgy...

Personally i would go with the P4, although hotter/heavier etc etc... performance out of it would be worth it.

212761 2004-02-11 07:31:00 I seems to me that the only reason for more processor power is to play games. because of the limit of the graphics card, i'm not going to beable to play powerful games.

I will not buy a 2/h laptop, becuase i have had bad experiances with that.

are there still other factors or models i should consider ?

Lmao! I'd go with the xeon myself.

I probably wouldn't go for second hand computers as they come with all sorts of problems. (Why else would they be second hand??).

Most people don't really need the portability of a laptop - they just get it because it makes them look cool. Its a fashion statement. :p
