212819 2004-02-04 09:21:00 When I attempt to run PhotoImpact 5 Bundled Edition under a limited account I receive the following error message.

ledit.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.

As I have no problems running this application under an Administrator account I thought a solution could be to run the program in the limited account, but using the Administrator account details. Is this possible?
Is it possible to enter the Administrator password once, and the program remember it after that, or would the password have to be entered everytime the application was run?
I prefer to run my programs in a limited account, as less damage can be caused if a virus or some other ‘nasty’ arrives on the scene.

If you right mouse click on the icon (or shortcut) for the program you are trying to use, click Properties and then the Advanced button, tick the Run with different credentials box and click OK then OK again. This will allow you to run the program as another (say Adminstartor) user. You will be prompted for the User and password when you attempt to run the program.

Cheers, Babe.

212822 2004-02-04 09:39:00 Thanks Babe.
So are you telling me that it isn't possible to set up a program to run using Administrator details without entering the password each time you run it??
I was hoping it would be possible to store the Administrator details with the program so I wouldn't have to add the Administrator password each time.
Thanks again.

The RUNAS command (which effectively is what is being used) doesn't allow the password to be saved and in most cases you wouldn't want to anyway (for security reasons). There may be other ways of achieving your objective but they escape me for the moment (must be tired).

212824 2004-02-04 09:57:00 RedRocket,

I remembered this utility Sanur (www.commandline.co.uk) which may do the trick for your it's a different way of achieving the same objective using RUNAS implemented within a script.

haven't used it myself - prefer more secure methods...

Just another thought have you tried putting the user into the Power Users group and testing whether that will help in running the program or do you only want them to be in the Users group.

212825 2004-02-04 10:11:00 there are two things that may be causing this as non adminstrator

1 the program is trying to change a registry key
unless you know which key hard to fix

2 program is trying to change or add a file to the path of the program and if the install path is is in program files......etc it is protected as a nonadminstrator user
you could change the directory permissions ie right click on the folder choose security "everyone" group and adjust the permission they have ,I think the default for non administrator is read.

3 try installing that program when logged into the machine as the user giving this trouble with this program.

good luck
