The missing letters with the * symbol is right through every page.I have tried the method of click open then choose that file and then click under file types: word documents and all files But it still doesn't help At the microsoft site it said to In the Convert File dialog box that appears, click Recover Text from Any File, and then click OK. Word converts and recovers text from the document. I cannot find the option where it says recover text from any file I am running windows 98se and running microsoft 2000. 212583	2004-02-03 19:53:00	PDF files do not contain much "pure text" to recover. (You have already discovered that). They are not designed to be read with MS Word, or anything other than a PDF reader program. Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Adobe Reader 6 are free, so use them? If the sender wanted them to be read in MS Word then they would have sent them as a Word document. PDF files are usually used to prevent people modifying forms and documents. The PDF files can often allow a "copy and paste" function between Adobe Reader and Word, but all formatting is lost. Note that you can only highlight (using the text selection tool in Adobe) the text if the creator of the document has not protected this function.	godfather (25)
212584	2004-02-03 22:13:00	I think it depends on how you did (or do) the conversion. There are some programs that do this OK, I've used one or two in the past. Depends inter alia on how much formatting you want to carry over. But copying from pdf and pasting to word is unlikely to produce a very useful product.	rugila (214)

Certainly copy and paste won't do what you want, unless you use the Acro text select tool and copy and paste, but that is not going to be any good for an entire document. What version of Acrobat (or whatever) are you using? In Acro 5 you can Save as RTF, in Acro 6 you can Save as Doc. I have usually found that function to work quite well. Tony Bacon	tbacon_nz (865)
212586	2004-02-04 04:53:00	Why not try printing the PDF file and then scanning it to word using OCR software. This way you will keep the orginal layout and any pics in the document - assuming that you have access to a scanner of course. Cheers Lucy	LucyL (2867)

212588	2004-02-04 09:50:00	Scanner won't care whether the source document was printed from a PDF file or whatever - it's just a piece of paper in the print state. However, I agree some OCR progs aren't good at reproducing pictures within a document. I use ABBYY FineReader and haven't had any problems with pictures. Lucy	LucyL (2867)

212590	2004-02-04 15:55:00	Has anyone used a good program that can convert pdf to word document?I don't have a scanner .I found out that it was the program that was causing the asteriks.Some of the graphis.For examples the oblong shapes that is use to write your name when the sheet is printed is gone missing or half of the oblong is shown.	yingxuan (3330)
212591	2004-02-04 17:21:00	There is no simple conversion that makes it into a Word document complete with graphics . The whole point of the sender using a pdf file is often to prevent such conversions that then allow such editing and re-authoring . With any contractual type form, its legally very important that nobody is able to alter the form in any way, which is what you are trying to do in effect . You have not said why you want to do this, but a wild guess would be that you want to fill in a form using Word, when the form is designed to be filled in by hand? Try this: When the document is open in Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, select the "Graphics Select" tool, and select the entire page, starting at a top corner and dragging the rectangle down to the opposite corner . Then in Word, Edit - Paste . You will have a "picture" of the original page, right click in it and select "Format Picture" Select Layout - behind text . Layout - Advanced - untick "move with text" Drag the corners of the picture to fill the page . Now, you should be able to "type over" the page, to fill in the form . Alignment can be a problem . If you intend emailing the form when filled out, be careful, as this method produce a large file .	godfather (25)
