2004-02-05 04:59:00 Hi, my brand new Athlon XP 2500+ arrived today, I eagerly put it into my Gigabyte GA-7VA M/B and booted up, and to my shock and horror the first screen I see tells me that it's an Athlon 1100 :S - so, I boot up fine, browse to my motherboard manufacturer's website, and download the latest bios that is ment to support the Barton core athlon's (this includes the 2500+). So I rebooted, flashed - same thing :(. Then I boot again, download CPU-Z and it tells me that it is indeed a Barton cored Athlon XP, but the core is 1100Mhz ( sal.neoburn.net(cpu-z).jpg ). Anyone else had this problem, or would know a way to solve it? Any help would be very much appreciated.

2004-02-05 05:02:00 Maybe it's an 1100. :D Can you read the markings, or are they carefully hidden? Graham L (2)
2004-02-05 05:04:00 Yes i can read the markings and again yes, it is a 2500. Cheers for the speedy reply though ;) [linux] mb0o53 (4863)
2004-02-05 05:08:00 Is CPU-Z older than the CPU? Have you got a Knoppix or similar CD. The Linux Bogomips measurement you get during the boot (and available in /proc/ ...) is an actual measrement of the CPU speed. Graham L (2)
2004-02-05 05:09:00 Have you made sure the FSB is set correctly? either through the BIOS or jumpers on the mainboard? The FSB for a 2500+ is 166mhz Pete O'Neil (250)
2004-02-05 05:11:00 Opps didnt check your screenie. All you need to do is set the FSB correctly and your problem will be fixed. Pete O'Neil (250)
2004-02-05 05:12:00 ooh yay! how? i love solutions! [linux] mb0o53 (4863)
2004-02-05 05:20:00 Read the manual,it will be a jumper metla (154)
2004-02-05 05:31:00 Try reading page 9 of your manual. There is a switch labelled SW1 close to the end of the AGP socket. The default is 100 and you need to set this to 166. You need switch 1 = OFF and switch 2 = ON. This will set it to 166. Elephant (599)
2004-02-05 05:36:00 Hooray! All done! Thankyou All! I was very worried for a while there :D PressF1 does it again!
