213255 2004-02-07 05:53:00 you will also be well advised to get a sata or at least 7200rpm ide drive cause the video incomign thru your firewire will be massive........I've got pinnacle studio dv and firewire IEEE1394 card and from my digital video cam it save video when at full spec at the rate of 3.5Mb per second !!!

also plenty ram ........preferrably dual channel at least 512mb or even better 1gb.........and a fast processor will help if you are encoding to dvd cause it can take ages........

213257 2004-02-08 00:32:00 thanks for your reply

i know that SATA is better than IDE, and that an 8MB cache is better than 2MB, but i don't know why. for digital video is it important to get a decent hard drive (ie. SATA and 8MB cache) or just a big one that spins at 7200rpm? it's just that i've been looking at hard drives and i've noticed that there is a big difference in price between the good and the best and i want to make sure that i'm spending my cash wisely.

213258 2004-02-08 00:57:00 If it fits in with your budget better then get the ide 7200rpm,space is more importent then speed.

sata at this stage is mainly hype.

and the 2mb of cache vs 8mb has as far as i know no real world advatage

213259 2004-02-11 05:52:00 I use a P4 2.4 HT CPU, 1 GB DDR 400, with firewire and a DV cam with firewire. And Ulead Moviefactory and Ulead Videostudio SE.

And a 80 gb and 120 sata hdd. When you use I think Moviefactory, it gives u an extra 32% increase in rendering. Since the latest patch, for this is especially made for HT CPU's. The beefier the system tho, I agree, the better it'll be.

213261 2004-02-12 09:32:00 That external box looks fine, providing you have USB2 high speed

Or is it full speed thats the faster standard.

Hmmm....i think its high speed that is faster then full speed.

Whomever came up with that crock for usb2 standards needs to be shot.
