2004-02-09 11:28:00 | Mozilla Firefox 0.8 has just been released. Mozilla has changed the name from Firebird to Firefox, and has registered the new name as a trademark. New to this release is an installer, among many new enhancements. With this release Firefox appears to be making strong headway towards a 1.0 release very soon. | 214017 | 2004-02-09 12:42:00 | I have just downloaded FireFox and I am using it now, it looks good so far. Even though, as I have said before, my preference is for MyIE2 I am prepared to try anything new and if it is better I will be changing. Seems to have more options for bookmarks than I remember with FireBird so that is a big plus as far as I am concerned. Will post back as I get used to the new browser. CU Rob.

2004-02-09 12:59:00 | I wish they had changed the name to firefox earlier, rather than waiting for a new release. The firebird name was becoming relatively well known and changing the name now weakens it. | bmason (508) | |

2004-02-09 13:37:00 | I would really like it if they had ditched the "phoenix" remnants. It STILL stores profile data in Application Data/Phoenix in windows XP. | -=JM=- (16) | |
2004-02-09 14:09:00 | All new builds still use the Phoenix folder to store profile information to ensure backwards compatibilty with older builds. Using the profile manager you can specify the name and location of the profile folder. Profile manager can be started using the -p option. For instance, Click Start > Run and type: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla firefox\firefox.exe" -p This example assumes of course that you have Firefox installed in that location.

2004-02-10 00:48:00 | Having a bit of trouble with certain toolbars and toolbar options, i.e. have no google bar any more and the toolbars look rather bare at present,a few functions are missing, no doubt this is just teething troubles, but will wait until the rush is over and see what I can come up with at M/zine, no doubt there's a fix somewhere. Anyone else had these problems?...a bit early to call these problems I think I'm happy. DD.
