| 213817 | 2004-02-08 22:23:00 | Just wondered whether anyone has had a similar experience with nasties that don't seem to be picked up? I am helping a relative, by remote control, to get her machine protected . (Teen-age boys have used it . . . need I say more?) . She has got AVG running with latest updates and also Adaware . She has had warnings about the trojan dluca . k but when I saw her list of startup programs I see this trojan is running still (c:\windows\system32\mscnt . exe . Other unnecessaries are there, as well, such as "Power Reg Scheduler" and "Wild Tangent" stuff . Because the above don't seem to be fixed I now have to devise strategies for getting them eradicated by remote control without stuffing up the machine!! (Registry entry finding and deleting are a bit scary when being done by novices! Must remember "System Restore"!!) . But I wonder why these things have to be fixed after AVG and Adaware have been run . Anyone with similar experiences or suggestions? Might try the "Remote Assistance" tack aval in XP . Anyone tried this? Painful thru a dial-up account? Cheers and TIA . |
