213805 2004-02-08 20:21:00 Is there any way of playing < .rm > files without having the Real Player. I have a copy of the BBC 'Clean version' that I am wary of installing after my last experience, does anyone know how clean it actually is? I have installed the normal version on my comp before and it took me a long time to clean it of my system.

213806 2004-02-08 22:09:00 i havent used it yet but apparently people got so annoyed with real player and quicktime that they made there own versions.
"Real Alternative" and "Quicktime Alternative" are meant to be spyware free with none of the extra crap of the others

I have just updated to Real Player 10, and I ran Ad-aware etc to see if there were any comet cursor things but didnt find any. It seems ok, just turn off anything that wants to connect out, or to auto anything, or to download, or to set your preferences etc etc, and if need be block any udp packets going out with your firewall.

I rather like Real Player as long as it has been castrated :)

213810 2004-02-09 00:04:00 RealPlayer has three nasty bugs so check their site for updates. mikebartnz (21)
213811 2004-02-09 01:30:00 Not so much bugs as vulnerabilities, the latest update is supposed to fix them. However, I'd say that if everything is "turned off" so it is just a plain player then it is doubtful if there is any chance of vulnerabilities being expoited. It's pretty remote anyway, they are just covering their backs. Terry Porritt (14)
213812 2004-02-09 02:42:00 Ok, I installed it and things went smoothly but took a long time compared to other instals I have done. I played the track I wanted to play: the latest from Courtney Love of Hole. Load of (add your own *). The only thing good was the phrase in the review:

"Sex and Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll and their shadow Narcissism"
