Yes but it is Telecom who do the changing of speeds not the ISP. As many have found out you sometimes get full speed even on the 128 system because Telecom have made a change. That is why you are paying $29.95 to telecom for IP services. This is the part they do.

213901 2004-02-09 21:17:00 I had a similar problem a while back. When I asked telecom to switch me from jetstream starter to the 256k plan, they forgot the first time... did it wrong the next month and finally did it the month after..... during the second month i was technically on the 256k plan but was only getting 128k speeds.... i called telecom to make sure i was going to get the 128k limit and they said this would happen. But make sure. You know what telecom is like...... Ashley Matthews (550)

However when you log into a JetStream Starter account, on a JetStream full-rate enabled phone line, it still logs you into the JetStream Starter realm and provides 128kb data rates.

Dude i suggest you call provisioning to sort the line speed.
Jetstream charges are line specific and jetstream starter charges are username specific.

Recently there has been sever problems with the usage meter.
It doesnt accurately show usage until 24hrs or 2hrs for jetstream starter plans.

But anyway if you receive a huge bill give your ISP a call and you can get credits based on inaccurate info or better still just call the telecom provisioning...and eat their heads out and they will do credit with no problem....i know cause i have had 3 buddies with similar problems and got about $4000 refund in total

Cheers

213904 2004-02-10 00:24:00 I see new offerings from telecom for Jetstream home, with speed reductions instead of high MB costs for over-cap data, or 5c MB

From memory 256 k, 1 GB = $39.95 (plus telecom cost) provided you are with Telecom for phone calls, else its $49.95

Also 10 GB plans etc.

213905 2004-02-10 01:26:00 I think I've got a problem, since last night the meter has gone up another 30mb to 1131mb. I talked with the jetstream helpdesk technical staff and they reckon you can't have two different jetstream plans on the one phone line because it still gets accumulated on the one meter. :(

So basically I've signed up for a new isp acount, paid $30 for it and now I probably have to try get that refunded because it was a waste of time as the charges aren't be charged to the jetstart, but to the jetstream at 20c a meg!

In the mean time they can't change the plan until the end of the billing cycle which is 2 weeks away!! So here we are going about our daily business and being charged 20c a meg and we can't do anything about it.

Time for emergency evac to woosh wireless I'm thinking.
